DUE TO THE HEAT, SMOKE, FIRES, and the Saturday run being canceled, this run has also been postponed.
The McKenzie Pass Overnighter should prove to be the bomb. However, those with a little more time on their hands and seeking more adventure are welcome to join us on a run to the Painted Hills & John Day Fossil Beds.
This will be a partial recreation of a very successful multiday run put on by Tiersa Jergesen and Jack Pendleton in August 2018. It included driving from the Portland area to Prineville on Day 1, a trip to the Painted Hills and John Day Fossil Beds on Day 2, and a return home or a one-day extension of the trip by visiting the Kam Wah Chung Museum in John Day on Day 3.
This year on Day 1, we will travel to the Prineville area with Tracy and the McKenzie Pass Overnighter Run group. We will be staying in Prineville Saturday night and most likely meet for a late dinner or drinks at a place as yet undetermined.
On Day 2 in the morning, we will meet at the Prineville Country Inn & Suites and travel to the John Day Fossil beds and Thomas Condon Paleontology Center. From there it is on to the breathtaking Painted Hills. Then, back to Prineville to spend Sunday night and have dinner at Club Pioneer.
On Day 3, Monday morning after a late breakfast, it is back home on a route yet undetermined. Note, there are some of the most beauteous, twisty mountain and canyon roads between Prineville and the Painted Hills.
We have made reservations at the Country Inn & Suites in Prineville for Saturday and Sunday nights. There is also a Best Western in Prineville with better rates than Bend & Redmond. You are welcome to join us at any time or place along our route.
