MARYHILL CAR SHOW & LOOPS RUN

Members Karl Citek and Patricia Logan have stepped forward to lead us east up the Gorge on Highway 14 to Maryhill Museum to what has become a club favorite early fall event.  Why a favorite??  First, the run in what is usually very fine weather - late summer/early fall; on a road with lots of curves, tunnels, great vistas, quaint little villages and generally more interesting than I-84.  Second, the Car is King show has been in years past a great show including a little bit of everything automotive. It is an open car show that anyone may enter and is free to the viewing public.  The show is open from 9:00am to 3:30pm.  If we meet at 8:00am and leave at 8:30 we should get there around 9:30 giving us plenty of time to see all that is offered.
From noon til 2:00pm the Maryhill Loops Road is open.  This road was one of the first hard paved roads in the northwest commissioned by Sam Hill (builder of Maryhill Mansion - later Museum).  This road is also the site of a famous hill climb race and is only open to the public to drive the 8 hairpin curves twice a year, again at no cost.

In years past there have been a few food vendors but the selection was extremely limited.  Unless this has changed, be advised to bring your own lunch (and don't forget  your blanket or folding chairs).

This run "officially" ends at our arrival to Maryhill Museum so you will be free to find your own way home or wherever.  In years past folks have returned on Hwy 14 - the way we came in.  Some have crossed the river on US97 at Biggs to get on I-84 West (the most direct route back into Portland).  A smaller group has gone north to Goldendale to turn west on Hwy 142 to drive down Klickitat Canyon (a club favorite road) to continue the day's zooming fun.
