Rose Cup Races

The Rose Cup Races are one of the PIR events that I try hard not to miss.  I find it to be PIR racing at its best and love that it is so easy to participate in.  (From another posting you can see that I feel the same way about the SVRA week-end). This Club event spans Rose Cup races on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Rose Cup week-end is described at https://rosecup.com/   The racing agenda features a lot of great events including --

  • Rose Cup Feature Race ( Everything from purpose built race cars with NASCAR Cup motors to Trans Am cars, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Cobras, Porsches, BMWs, Nissans and more),
  • Late Model Stock Cars, fast
  • American GT Challenge – total competition cars that run in Trans Am 2. Think 530 HP, fast and very competitive
  • Vintage - Alfa, Lotus, Brabham, Corvette, Mustang, Datsun
  • Spec Racer Ford, highly competitive open cockpit identical sports racer cars powered by 1.6-liter Ford engines
  • Small and Mid-Bore Production - small and medium displacement engine cars from Nissan, Honda, Ford, Austin Healey, Mazda, Alfa Romeo, MG and more.
  • Spec Miata Northwest Spec Miata Tour

It’s a fantastic week-end of excellent racing.  We can look forward to practice, qualifying and racing on Saturday including the Late Model Stock Car and the American GT Challenge feature races and sprint races from the other five run groups. Sunday will be a full day of more feature races, ceremonies and a celebration of the Rose Cup Races… a Portland tradition since 1961.

Prior years’ experience has been that we will have an area for parking/showing off our cars.  We’ll use this as a base point during the week-end’s activities.  Participants will be wise to bring folding chairs, appropriate clothing and sun protection, lots of water (recall that we’re discussing July here) and food (though PIR’s vendors will be there in full force too if you prefer).

Tickets for a single day cost $10 (another $10 for parking, but there is free parking outside the gate and a moderate walk away).  Week-end tickets with parking are $25.  Other options exist as well, and tickets may be obtained at  https://rosecup.com/tickets/

For the truly intrepid, there’ll be a strictly voluntary breakfast at the nearby Shari’s at 8:00 AM Saturday.  It’s located at 9730 N Whitaker Rd, Portland 97217.  We’ll go to PIR from there.
